Enneagram Relationships: The Nonconformist and Theorist

Some of the coolest types in Hollywood or characters on the big screen have been the Four/Five pairing. But how can you spot them? Well, let’s look at the core type characteristics.

If you think of the relationship of Harry Potter and Severus Snape you would see it as a very unique and interesting partnership. Though, they are not a real couple (only in Slash Fandom), we can learn a lot from our favorite characters that we love so much. There are many famous couples who tend to pair up over and over again—you can tell just by the interaction of the couple, the way they argue and make-up or the sheer drama of the everyday. We are going to take a look at famous couples to find out why they are a couple? Why they stay together and what makes these personality types, stand the test of time in the Enneagram world.

Some of the coolest types in Hollywood or characters on the big screen have been the Four/Five pairing. But how can you spot them? Well, let’s look at the core type characteristics.

Fours: The Nonconformist

This Enneagram type loves the idea of being special and unique—so much that sometimes drama can be an everyday thing in the relationship department. Because Nonconformist’s are part of the Heart group, they need to feel loved and cared for. They do their best to seek out others who will give them that attention. So you would be thinking, why do Fours in most cases couple up with the Five, the Theorist who for the most part, tend to keep emotions at bay? Let’s look closer at the Five.

Fives: The Theorist

This Enneagram type loves to understand the world around them. They tend to be more introverted, but they are some who are not—depending on that wing type (Four or Six). Theorists also have issues with emotion and can repress a lot of feelings, until they are alone to sort it all out. You might think that a Five isn’t thinking about you—but you would be mistaken. In fact, Fives tend to think about the person they love so much, that some have been known to have obsessions regarding a particular person they fancy. So, why are Fives seen paired up with the Four type of the Enneagram?

Need for Attention Meets Need to Understand the Human Condition

This is my take on it, but I think why these types often pair is because opposites attract. Not only that but because their wings are on both sides of this type. 4w5 wing or 5w4 wings—they can give the impression of having some traits that are similar—and hence, the need for understanding where the person is coming from.

Both types can be introverted for the most part, they fall in line with more intellectual conversations. Remember, Fives love knowledge. So add a 4w5 wing, and you can see both discovering something unique and fun about the other.

Both types also can have a fetish or interesting hobbies or likes—which can be more on the underground or creative side of things. This works well with Fives who tend to separate their friends and lovers, depending on what secrets they want to reveal or not. This type is known for being inside the underground scenes or the ‘dark arts’ in the world of Harry Potter.

Understanding your Favorite Character’s Type

So just like Edward Cullen and Bella from the movie Twilight—who were attracted to each other, why? Edward was drawn to not knowing why he couldn’t read her mind, and for Bella, the Five, Edward was something unique and different that she’s never encountered.

This was also one of the draws to Bella regarding Edward? The Five loves to understand why Edward was so different from the others—a puzzle, that must be explored. If you understand the type’s core needs, it all makes sense—even if Fives, tend not to want to be bother with conversation for the most part. This couple is inclined to find common ground in their wings types.

Emotional Cautions

This couple also has a tendency to crash and burn. The downside to this type is also the very thing that attracts them—emotion and intellect. Fives are known for not giving the Four what they need—emotions. Feelings are frowned upon by Theorist, who must process the events of discourse. Nonconformist are emotional, they need to understand where you are coming from, do you really love them, or understand them and they want to know now! This often scares the Five—who is part of the fear group and begins to think the Four’s a little too needy with emotional feelings.

If both types can understand the core of each—one needing a little less emotional space and the other needing a little bit more, they can come off just fine.
