The Three – The Self-starter
This is the third article of a nine-part series in getting to know the types. We go into type Three – the Self-starter who’s motivated by success and achievement. Most Self-starters do not believe in the word no, failure or sleep for that matter. If they don’t have several projects going on simultaneously, they are not happy campers. Threes core value is to be loved for their achievements, successful in work, family, and family.
The Three is also part of the heart triad of the Enneagram (Two, Three, Four)

Basic Want:
The main goals for Threes are to have a favorable image and to succeed.
The role of the Self-starter is to be better in all aspects of their lives. Think of Tom Cruise working 150% on making sure his movies are well received by the fans. Not to mention the stunts he continues to improve each year. If you watched a salesperson land the deal of the century, most likely you are looking at a Self-Starter. The goal is to have no hair out of place, the best of everything and to make sure you know they do.

How to Help the Three:
The realization the Threes need to see is that success isn’t the only things that are important. Time, family and friends will still love you even if you don’t have that perfect house on the block. Making time for yourself and sleeping enough hours to make sure you are healthy, should be the Self-Starter’s goal if they want to achieve balance in all aspects of their life. Love is given if you don’t try to seek it out by showing only your best side. Let others know the real you, even if from time to time there’s a pimple attached.
